Notes on 2nd Corinthians Chapter 5

Our Heavenly Dwelling

•Earth is a temporary place

•God has a place for us in heaven

•Our goal is to please God

•We all will be judged for our actions on earth, good & bad

Point to ponder: “We live by faith, not by sight.” 2nd Corinthians 5:7

I remember listening to K-LOVE in the car, and heard about a woman who had escaped a plane crash. She had managed to slide onto the plane’s wing, and upon reaching the ground said, “I’ll see you in a minute, Jesus!” Although she survived, her assurance that she would meet Jesus when she died made me realize that I don’t know what’s going to happen to me. I do believe that God exists and so do Heaven and Hell, so maybe it’s not that I don’t know what’s going to happen to me, but rather it seems so great and too good. Perhaps my faith is a bit lacking; I like to see things and thinking about Heaven for too long throws my brain for a loop. I think I need to work on keeping my friend Clarisa’s favorite saying in the front of my mind: “Facing fear, trusting God!”

The Ministry of Reconciliation

•Christ died for everyone; because of this we should live for him

•If we believe in Jesus we are a new creation

•God reconciled us to himself through Christ; now he will not hold our sins against us

•We are Christ’s ambassadors; we want others to be reconciled to God also

•Now is the time of God’s favor and the day of salvation

Point to ponder: “So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view.” 2nd Corinthians 5:16

I think that I judge people too easily and too much. Although first impressions are very powerful, I want to work on seeing past that. It’s easy for me to make assumptions based on the first glance, but sometimes I’m horribly wrong about people. I feel guilty whenever I make assumptions, but it’s hard not to! My (forever standing) goal is to love everyone, no matter what impression they give me.

Have a wonderful day!
