My Paris Dream by Kate Betts

I saw this on the shelf at Barnes and Noble and I opened it immediately because it looked impossibly romantic and because I too have a Paris dream. Not exactly the one that Kate Betts lived, but more the one that she fantasized. Above all, I want to learn what it is like to be French, which is something that she did achieve. Kate’s memories of her time in France are vivid and raw, some anecdotes are absolutely hilarious and others scared my socks off. If you like fashion/style, Kate, who worked for Women’s Wear Daily, gives readers a very invovled picture of fashion as it began to evolve into what it is today. She describes the experience of sitting in previews of Karl Lagerfield and Yves Saint Laurent and meeting with (the then unknown) John Galliano and Christian Louboutin. It’s a thrilling, exciting, exhausting, cutthroat read that keeps me dreaming about my Paris dream.

Happy reading!

Bonjour!

Marissa
